Sunday, May 2, 2010: ANDERSON PARK SPRUCE-UP. Join Friends of Anderson Park with springtime mulching, weeding, litter collection, and invasive-plant removal. Bring gloves, shovels and other tools if possible. Meet at 1 p.m. by the bathrooms near Parkside Road at the southeast corner of the park. Sunday, May 9 and throughout May, 2010: MOTHER'S DAY PLANTING IN ESSEX COUNTY ANDERSON PARK: Honor your mother by donating a rose bush or shrubbery to be planted in Anderson Park, on the National Register of Historic Places. Mothers receive a certificate. Friends of Anderson Park will do the planting throughout the month, but if you would like your mother to participate on a particular day, that can be arranged. Saturday, May 15, 2010: HISTORIC WALKING TOUR OF ESSEX COUNTY ANDERSON PARK: This park has recently been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Learn about the founding of Anderson Park a century ago and how it shaped Upper Montclair and led to the formation of other parks in town. Also hear about plans to rejuvenate the park's Olmsted landscape. Free. Sponsored by Friends of Anderson Park. Meet at the boulder at the park's northeast entrance, near Bellevue Avenue, east of North Mountain Avenue, Upper Montclair. Saturday, May 15, 2010: VICTORIAN DAY IN ESSEX COUNTY ANDERSON PARK. A celebration of the park's listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Noon to 3:30 p.m. Historic Wheelmen display and demonstrate antique bicycles and tricycles, Victorian lawn games, live music, demonstration cricket game, lemonade and cookies, tree planting and dedication. Spread out a blanket and bring a picnic. Hosted by the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and Friends of Anderson Park. Rain date: May 16. September 11-12, 2010: FINE ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. A juried show free to the public featuring more than 185 fine artists and crafts people, as well as food vendors.
