Saturday, May 14, 2011: HISTORIC WALKING TOUR OF ANDERSON PARK: Discover how this Olmsted-designed Essex County park was created a century ago and how it shaped Upper Montclair and led to the formation of other Montclair parks. Also hear about efforts to rejuvenate the landscape of this park, on the National Register of Historic Places. Free. Sponsored by Friends of Anderson Park. Meet at the boulder at the park's northeast entrance, near Bellevue Avenue, east of North Mountain Avenue, Upper Montclair. Saturday, May 14, 2011: ANDERSON PARK SPRUCE-UP. Join Friends of Anderson Park with springtime mulching, weeding, litter collection, and invasive-plant removal. Bring gloves, shovels and other tools if possible. Meet at 1 p.m. by the bathrooms near Parkside Road at the southeast corner of the park. May 8 and throughout May, 2011: MOTHER'S DAY PLANTING IN ANDERSON PARK: Honor your mother by donating a rose bush or shrubbery to be planted in Anderson Park, on the National Register of Historic Places. Mothers receive a certificate. Friends of Anderson Park will do the planting throughout the month, but if you would like your mother to participate on a particular day, that can be arranged. September 17-18, 2011: FINE ARTS AND CRAFTS FAIR, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. A juried show free to the public featuring more than 185 fine artists and crafts people, as well as food vendors.
