Much of the park's original shrubbery is gone now, and many of the trees planted have died or are showing their age, although a few trees are more than a century old.

With Montclair's population now nearly three times what it was when C.W. Anderson established this oasis, the breathing room it provides is more valued than ever. Friends of Anderson Park is working with Essex County to plant trees and shrubs, and in the spring of 2006 more than 38 trees and 180 shrubs were planted in the spirit of the 1903 Olmsted plan.
